The teaching staff at Newburyport Tennis Club have diverse backgrounds and skills. They are a dedicated group of individuals who are committed to teaching our members of all ability levels, and they share a common desire to improve players’ skills to give them a competitive edge.

Mike Perrotta

Manager

Mike has been with the Newburyport Tennis Club for over 15 years. He oversees daily court usage and activities at the club. He manages staff, develops programming, and interfaces with members. Mike previously worked at the Willows in North Andover as a tennis pro. Before that he was Director of Tennis at Gold’s Gym (formerly Racquetime) in Danvers. Mike has many years of teaching and coaching experience. He has taught children and adults, and he has coached a number of teams at the high school and college level. He has also coached various adult teams, including the ladies doubles team through the North Shore League.

Kelly Ouellet

Director of Tennis

Specialties: All Levels of Singles Hitting Lessons, Private and Semi Private Lessons with All Levels

Kelly is entering her 19th year of service here at the Tennis Club. Kelly is a wonderful teaching professional who also tirelessly helps with the placement of current members to the correct level of teams, round robins, singles leagues and contract times and evaluates our new members so they can start their tennis experience with us at the club in the right program at the correct level for them.

Kelly is a graduate of Andover High School in Andover, Massachusetts and attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Kelly was highly ranked both as a Junior and in the Women’s Open Division throughout New England. Kelly has won many events including the Yankee Homecoming Tournament, Abenaqui Country Club Tournament and was a past champion of our very own Lago Bowl.

Kelly has also taught at Ipswich Country Club and at the Governor’s Academy (formerly known as Governor Dummer’s Academy) where she was known for her thorough technical private lessons and strategic doubles clinics for players of all levels and ages. Kelly is an irreplaceable staple here at the club and there is no way to express how invaluable she is with her endless on the court and off the court efforts to keep the all of our programs running smoothly!

Sue Page

Pro Emeritus

Specialties: All Levels Ladies Team Tennis Coaching

Sue has been the heart and soul of our Ladies Teams’ here at the Tennis Club for over 25 years now. Sue joined the Tennis Club in 1974 when it first opened and really caught the tennis bug. She played for Newburyport in the Dorothy Bruno Hill league’s top division and competed for 28 years. Sue played in the USTA National Championships 3 times and also played at the US Open in the Husband & Wife Division representing New England in the Equitable Life National Tournament.

In 1978 Sue was encouraged to become a tennis instructor and did so by starting the Tennis Club’s first Junior Team while also coaching at Endicott College and coaching the Amesbury High School Boys team for a total of twenty years. Sue has been the one constant since the Tennis Club opened on January 1st, 1974. She has been our lead coach for the Ladies teams and all of us here would be lost without her!

John Tracy

Specialties: High Level Players, All Levels of Ladies Team Tennis Doubles Play

John Tracy is entering his 14th season here at the Tennis Club. John is a graduate of Triton Regional High School and attended Division 1 Northeastern University where he excelled as the school’s number 1 singles player. Before coaching at the Tennis Club, John was a highly sought out teaching professional who taught at North Meadow and Indian Ridge.

John has remained very active as a player and has continued his high level and successful playing career-winning tournaments such as the ABC Tournament, Loon Mountain, Haverhill Open, Yankee Homecoming, and our own Lago Bowl many times over the past years.

Professionally John teaches both Juniors and Adults and is thought of as one of the best – if not the best – instructors throughout all of New England! John is an outstanding all around teacher of both singles and doubles strategy and technique and all of us here at the Racquet Club that know of John’s talent feel very fortunate to have him as our lead pro here at our club!

Courtney Gilman

Specialties: All Levels Ladies Doubles Team Play and Private and Semi Private Lessons with All Levels

Courtney Gilman joined our staff here at the Tennis Club in 2013 as our Head Pro. He is a USPTA certified professional and also on the USTA ratings appeal board. Courtney played his college tennis as the number 1 singles player at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida and at Salem State University in Salem Massachusetts.

He has been a terrific addition to our staff and has added a great deal of excitement to all of our programs but especially to the Ladies teams. His enthusiasm and passion for the game is contagious.

Courtney has been teaching tennis since 1987 starting at the Waltham Athletic Club. He coached juniors of all ages as well as some USTA teams, too. He was an instructor there until 2004 when he was promoted to the position of tennis director where he continued to coach while supervising staff and implementing new programs until 2007. In 2007 Courtney moved on to Cedardale Health & Fitness where he went back to full time coaching with a strong focus on Ladies teams again.

Courtney also is the Tennis Director at the Salem Country Club in Salem, MA where he brings his infectious brand of teaching tennis during the summers’ to all ages and levels of play.

Joan Drouin

Joan has been involved with the Tennis Club for over 25 years! Joan has played on both North Shore League and USTA ladies teams as a competitive traveling team tennis player over that time. She has also coached girls tennis teams at both Amesbury and Triton high schools and is currently the head coach of the Tennis Club’s Ladies B team.

Joan also teaches in both the Junior Development I and Junior Development II (Tournament Training Academy-TTA) junior clinic programs. She also offers private and semi-private lessons to both adult and junior members of all levels.

Coach Brett Manoloff

Specialties: Junior tennis with a concentration on high school players. Adult beginner – intermediate skill levels.

Coach Manoloff is in his fourth year at the Club, after retiring from teaching at Amesbury High School in 2019 and coaching the AHS girls tennis team for 10 years. He is professionally certified by the USPTA and PTR and excels at teaching proper tennis fundamentals, strategies, and court etiquette.

He instructs Adult Beginner – Intermediate Friday Night Tennis, weekly clinics, Newburyport Youth Services Family Tennis, as well as Red/Orange/Green (Junior Tennis levels) and HHSP (high school) programs. Coach Manoloff also provides private lessons throughout the year.

Working in collaboration with other Club instructors, Coach Manoloff sets a positive tone on the court and enjoys the energy produced when tennis is FUN!

Our Junior Pros and Instructors are familiar faces to many at the Club with most having worked at the Club for many years.

This team is dedicated to all things Juniors at the Club including the Club’s Red / Orange / Green Ball youth tennis programs, popular Newburyport Youth Services summer program, the Club’s summer programs and our summer and winter high school programs.

Deb DiPietro

Director of Pickleball and PPR Certified Pickleball Coach

 

After being introduced to pickleball 5 years ago, Deb quickly became a pickleball enthusiast. Her background in tennis, pickleball and training gives her a unique approach in teaching the game of pickleball from beginners to advanced players.

Deb oversees the Club’s ever-growing pickleball schedule, teaches people how to play pickleball and coaches in drill clinics, group and private lessons.

Steve DiPietro

PPR Certified Pickleball Coach and Referee

Steve is a CPA as well as a Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) certified coach and credentialed USA pickleball referee.

Steve provides private lessons, drill clinics and pickleball coaching at Newburyport Tennis Club and in Florida.
